Summer Guest Series: The Truth & The Tarot With Juliet A. Kurth

For those who may not know, I’ve been reading tarot for a long time. My first time I received a tarot reading my friend and I were blown away by the information we received and the accuracy of it all. My friend ended up buying a deck immediately afterwards, and we read for each other for about a week before I bought my own. That was *gulp* 34 years ago, and I haven’t looked back since.

What to Ask The Tarot

I’ve learned so much from tarot on how we operate and move through time. So many want guarantees of the future, and most of the time there aren’t any. Little is completely fated; we always have free will. It’s only the general lessons of this lifetime that we seem to be guaranteed to experience, but the how of it will change depending on the way that we learn each one. Every choice we make a new possible timeline is formed, so the further out we go the fuzzier it can get. In fact, sometimes if you hear that an outcome you want will happen, you end up not making the choices you need to make to actually have that occur because you wait for things to come to you instead of acting.

There are also common questions that come up such as, “Am I on the right path?” Asking that isn’t always the best for getting the information you’re actually looking for. Half the time the cards will say yes even if you’re about to lose everything you have because the guides are applauding you for how you’ll be learning all the lessons you came here to learn. This is why my readings have evolved to focus more on what we need to know and do right now.

Will Tarot Tell Me My Future?

Yes, I show outcomes, too, and they can be pretty clear for at least the next few months. The further out I go, though, it just gets fuzzier because of the exponentially larger potential timelines. Most of the time, what a client wants to know instead is what do they need to do to get the outcome they want. That brings clarity to the situation and gives them personal actionable steps that they can take. And almost always, if the way to get to where they want isn’t something that aligns with who they are, this shows up, too. More than once I have shared what the cards are showing and a client has decided this isn’t something they want to continue to pursue. We then work together to find out where they actually want to go and how they can do it.

What if I’m Scared of the Answers?

I also don’t believe in a reading that ends in something hard and possibly unwanted. This isn’t me looking only on the “bright side.” I am a part of Gen X; dark humor and a certain amount of cynicism run through my veins. To experience life is to also know suffering; it’s unavoidable, and therefore I don’t always suggest to fight it. What I do then instead is ask what is needed to help someone through this experience. Is there a lesson to be kept in mind? Are there steps that can be taken to lessen the pain? Or is there advice on what someone can do to keep their stamina strong?

By focusing questions in this direction, people who get a reading from me leave more empowered. Yes- even if they hear information they don’t want to hear. So next time you get a reading, think about how your questions can center around what you can DO now and are actionable, not just how life can happen to you. You may find it’s just what you need to hear at that right moment.
