A Witches Guide to the Energy of November

Descent • Stillness • Shadow Work

As the final leaves fall and the world grows quiet, November invites witches and seekers alike into the deep stillness of transformation. The veil is still thin after Samhain, and the whisper of ancestors, guides, and dreams carries easily through the dark.

This is the season of descent — when the outer world retreats and the inner world awakens. November’s magic is not loud or showy; it’s the slow alchemy of the unseen. In the hush between death and rebirth, we find the wisdom of the Crone, the ancient archetype who teaches us to let go, to trust, and to befriend the dark.

🜄 The Elemental and Energetic Tone

November is ruled by Water — emotion, intuition, flow, and the liminal. This month pulls us beneath the surface of things, asking us to listen more than we speak, to feel rather than fix.

Under Water’s influence, the spiritual current runs deep. Emotions rise, dreams become potent, and old wounds surface for cleansing. This is sacred work: to face what we’ve buried and allow it to dissolve, transforming into wisdom and strength.

  • Element: Water
  • Ruling Planets: Pluto (death & rebirth) + Mars (action, willpower turned inward)
  • Magical Focus: Release, protection, ancestral communion, shadow integration, dreamwork

November Zodiac – Scorpio and Sagittarius: Death and Fire Rebirth

Scorpio Season (until Nov 21): The Sacred Descent

Scorpio’s energy rules the underworld of emotion and transformation. It asks you to dive into your depths and face your truth without flinching. This is the time for:

  • Cord-cutting and releasing rituals
  • Protection and banishing spells
  • Shadow journaling and truth-telling
  • Reclaiming your power after loss or change

Scorpio magic is like the composting of the soul — turning decay into fertile ground.

Sagittarius Season (from Nov 22): The Spark Returns

When the Sun shifts into Sagittarius, the fire returns. After the inner excavation of Scorpio, Sagittarius brings hope, expansion, and inspiration. You’ll feel a lift in spirit — an urge to explore, learn, and set new intentions.

Use this fiery phase to dream again. Cast spells for freedom, travel, creativity, and bold vision. It’s time to lift your gaze from the underworld and aim your arrow toward possibility.

Seasonal Witchcraft & Correspondences

When working your magic this month, lean into earthy textures and muted tones — the scent of smoke, the comfort of candlelight, and the wisdom of bare branches.

Herbs & Botanicals:
Mugwort for dreams, rosemary for remembrance, sage and cedar for cleansing, pine for protection, myrrh for grounding.

Crystals:
Obsidian for shadow work, smoky quartz for grounding, labradorite for psychic vision, onyx for protection, amethyst for spiritual clarity.

Colors:
Deep plum, black, indigo, silver, rust, and forest green — shades that mirror the twilight of the year.

Symbols:
Candles, mirrors, skeleton keys, crows, ravens, bare trees, bones, and the waning moon.

Ancestral Magic

Keep your ancestor altar up through early November. Freshen offerings, light candles, and speak their names. You might offer:

  • A cup of coffee or tea for a loved one
  • A glass of water and a glass of wine
  • A piece of bread, fruit, or incense
  • Family heirlooms, photographs, or symbols of lineage

As you connect, ask your ancestors for guidance, protection, and wisdom as you move through your own transformation.

Leaning In to the Darker Months

November isn’t about avoiding the darkness — it’s about learning to find your light within the dark. The magic of this month lies in surrender, stillness, and trust. Lean into it!

Let yourself rest. Let your magic be quiet. Let the universe rearrange itself around your healing.
When you rise again — as you surely will — your roots will be deeper, your spirit clearer, and your power renewed.
