A Witch’s Guide to the Energy of June

Rituals, Reflections, and Magic for the Month of Light

June at a Glance

June is the season of solar majesty—when life is full, bright, and brimming with potential. From wildflower blooms to golden evenings, this month invites us to illuminate our desires, stand in our power, and celebrate the magic of growth.

In the Wheel of the Year, June brings us Litha (also known as Midsummer or the Summer Solstice), one of the eight major pagan festivals. It marks the longest day and shortest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere—a sacred time when the Sun God is at his peak and the Goddess is heavy with promise.

Tarot Card of June: The Lovers (VI)

The Tarot card most commonly associated with June is The Lovers (Major Arcana VI). This card aligns with the zodiac sign Gemini, which rules the majority of the month.

♊ Zodiac Connection: Gemini

Element: Air
Planet: Mercury
Seasonal Vibe: Communication, duality, choice, connection

Symbolism & Energy:

The Lovers represents more than just romance—it’s about alignment, decision-making, values, and unity. Under Gemini’s influence, this card emphasizes the duality of choice, the need to integrate head and heart, and the power of authentic connection—with others and within yourself.

In June, as the earth blossoms and the sun shines brightest, The Lovers invites you to ask:

  • Am I in alignment with what I truly desire?
  • Are my choices honoring both my intellect and intuition?
  • How can I deepen my connection to myself and those I love?

Working with The Lovers card for June:

Meditate with The Lovers card to call in clarity around important life decisions. Use it in love or friendship spells to strengthen authentic, mutual bonds. Journal with it to explore what “alignment” means in your spiritual path. Place it on your altar during Gemini season or Litha to symbolize union and integration.

Litha Symbolism & Lore

Litha marks the height of the sun’s power, the zenith of life force energy. It’s the perfect time to honor your own vitality, joy, and growth. In folklore, this is the time when the Oak King (light) and the Holly King (dark) battle for dominance—though the Oak King wins today, his strength will begin to wane as the light slowly recedes toward Yule.

The fae are said to be especially active at Midsummer—playful, tricksy, and close to the veil between worlds. This is a time for magic, protection, and manifestation.

Ways to Celebrate Litha

  • Create a Sun Altar: Decorate with gold, sunflowers, candles, citrine, and symbols of fire and light.
  • Have a Bonfire or Candle Ritual: Write your wishes on paper and burn them as an offering. Dance, drum, or sing to raise energy.
  • Harvest Herbs: Many magical herbs are at their peak now. Collect (ethically) rosemary, lavender, chamomile, and St. John’s Wort for future spells.
  • Honor the Fae: Leave offerings like honey, milk, or bread near trees or gardens to thank the spirits of nature.
  • Make Sun Tea or Honey Cakes: Brew herbs in the sun with intention, or bake with gratitude and share your bounty.
