Summer Guest Series: Kundalini Yoga + Witchcraft with Christina Erdeljohn

Why Kundalini Yoga and Witchcraft Work

Throughout history, the witch has been seen as a healer by most people. What if that healer/witch was just a yogi in disguise and their magickal healing was yoga? That is why Kundalini is important. Witches need to make sure that they heal themselves so they can pour that healing into other’s cups. Kundalini yoga is just the magick to help them do just that.

You especially connect with the Divine Feminine or Shakti. If you take Kundalini Dance, you experience many of the Hindu pantheon with the utmost respect for the culture that they came from. You may even find a balancing of Divine Masculine and Feminine can occur when taking Kundalini classes. Can you have strong experiences when you awaken this energy within you? Of course. It is all about the teacher you have and how they help you process what you go through, if you need the support.

One of the biggest misconceptions about yoga is that it’s just for moving the body. Yes, it gets you to move your body, but there are plenty of studies, books, websites, and people that will tell you that yoga is more. I am one of those people. If you want to take your mind-body-spirit connection to the next level, that is where Kundalini yoga comes in. This is healing through kriyas, mantras, mudras, and loving yourself just a little more.

My Early Journey

I was always the weird kid who loved school, rocks, and biology. Those were my favorite things ever when I lived in Southern California growing up. My house was haunted, too. I knew this and it never bothered me. When I was 15, I left California for Kentucky because of my dad’s job and again the house we moved into was haunted and cursed (but that’s a story for another time).

Who I was didn’t really change and after high school, I felt kind of lost because I really didn’t know where I wanted to go in life and I just went to college taking my general education courses close to home. Yes, I
went to a four-year university, but it was only like twenty minutes from my house. My parents were going through some things (right before a divorce would come) and my mom started to go to Kundalini yoga. She had great breakthroughs on some personal things (her awakening) and because she knew I wasn’t much different than her, that I could probably use this yoga. So, I went and yes, I did have my awakening.

For me, it was gentle change that just reinforced the experiences above

It wasn’t as people describe it now. For me, it was gentle change that just reinforced the experiences above. I could now see spirits more clearly and interact with them like a medium or clairvoyant would. My love of crystals just came to be more intuitive, and they could talk to me now. I could see auras and connect with my black cat at the time a lot more. I was 18 years old.

From Learner to Leader

My mom and I became friends with our yoga teacher and other yoga teacher friends that she had. We also met a lady that was an Usui Tibetan Reiki Master many years later. In July of 2008, my mom went and studied to be a Kundalini yoga teacher at the Ashram in New Mexico. (This is many years before the fallout around Yogi Bhujan). She did not like the vibes she got while she was there, but became a teacher anyway. She learned many things that she did bring into her life, especially around cooking and being a chef. Yes, this woman learned from her grandmothers and dad, but went to culinary schools too.

Between the two, I was influenced by wanting to follow in my mother’s footsteps in some way. I practiced Kundalini yoga on and off for 20 years by myself, as my mom had to take care of my grandmother and many other obligations that teaching yoga was the last thing on her mind. In 2021, I found a school that wasn’t the Ashram that was teaching Kundalini yoga not by Yogi Bhujan, but by tradition and I signed up for my 200-hour certification. I have completed my 300-hour Kundalini teacher certification, a 300-hour Hatha/Vinyasa teacher certification, a 100-hour certification for Kundalini Rebirthing, and a 100-hour certification in Kundalini Dance (not bhangra) in the last few years as well.
