How to Cope When the World Feels Like Too Much
Lately, the number one question I’ve been getting from clients and friends alike is: “How do I cope with everything going on right now?”
Whether it’s the heartbreak of global events, the relentless bad news, or just trying to survive the ups and downs of everyday life, it feels like everyone is struggling to stay grounded. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or just plain exhausted—you’re not alone.
Below are some simple, actionable tips to help you find clarity, regain your footing, and reconnect with your inner strength.

1. Start With What’s In Front of You
One of the most helpful pieces of advice I ever received came from spiritual teacher Matt Kahn. He said (paraphrasing): “Not everything that’s going wrong in the world is for you to fix. What is right in front of you? That is yours to work on.”
That shifted everything for me.
Yes, it’s loud. Yes, it’s heavy. And especially for Highly Sensitive people, it can feel like too much. But when you focus on what is directly in front of you—what you can influence—you begin to reclaim your power and ground your energy again.
2. Listen to Your Inner Knowing
Not all of us are meant to take action in the same way. Some are called to the physical realm—activism, community organizing, donations, speaking out. Others are called to the energetic realm—holding prayer, ritual, focused energy work, spellcasting.
How do you know what’s yours to do? Get quiet. Ask your inner knowing and trust the answer.
If you’ve been feeling “off,” restless, or like you’re being pulled by something unseen—it may be your energetic bat signal. Trust that. Your role is just as vital as those on the front lines.

3. If You’re Called to Act, Feel First—Then Move
If your inner guidance tells you to act physically, that’s beautiful. But first, feel your feelings. All of them.
Anger. Fear. Grief. Let it move through you. Just don’t act from that space. Let it inform you, but not control you.
Why? Because you can’t transmute energy with the same frequency that created it. Instead, find your clarity. Then ask: “What is mine to do right now?”
It might be researching an issue, donating time or resources, joining a group, or creating your own. One great practice is to jot down your clear ideas in your phone when you’re in a calm, peaceful state. Then, when chaos strikes again, you’ll have a grounded reference from a wiser, steadier version of yourself.
4. Yes, It Really Can Be This Simple
None of this is meant to minimize the real pain or complexity of what you’re going through. But here’s the thing: most solutions that truly help are simple. We humans tend to over-complicate everything. (Guilty!) Simple doesn’t mean easy. But it does mean doable.

Bonus Tips to Soothe Your Nervous System:
- Turn off the news. Seriously.
- Stop doom scrolling. You already know too much.
- Move your body. Dance, stretch, shake it out.
- Touch the Earth. Hug a tree, dig in the dirt, feel the sun.
- Connect with joy. Pet your fur babies. Laugh with your kids. Play.
Joy is a radical act of rebellion.
We’ve been sold the lie that feeling joy means we’re not doing enough. But the truth is—joy is a powerful frequency. It helps us create the world we want to see, not just fight against the one we don’t.
You Were Born for These Times
You are not here by accident. You are here on purpose, with purpose. Even when it feels impossible, know this: You are powerful beyond measure.
You are not alone. And I, for one, am humbled and grateful to walk this Earth at the same time as you.
Much love, always.
