A Moment of Truth

Want a peek behind the veil?

Today I had a moment of clarity that froze me in my tracks. My cousin Nicole and I were in the midst of recording an episode for our podcast, and something we were talking about triggered a powerful message.

I went blank as the divine download was coming in, and couldn’t speak in the moment. I held on, breathed through it, and waited until I could continue our conversation.

It was deep, y’all!

I knew I would need some time to process what was happening inside me, and gave myself the immediate space I needed. I checked in, and found resonance. It took a hot minute, but I faced the thing inside my belly that was ugly & shameful: an old story of unworthiness & a need to be rescued- and met it with love & grace.

I have found that on this road of healing, the most beautiful moment is when we finally discover the Truth: We came into this world as already worthy, not as something flawed and broken.

We are just making our way back to that space of perfect knowing, that place of reverence, awe & acceptance, while discovering the magic along the way. We step in shit, we get messy, we peel away layers of the old stories and lies until we get back to the truth, the light, the love. THAT is the journey.

Whenever I can pause and see how far I have come, I am grateful. There is still a long way to go, and I love each new day I’m given to keep exploring this life.

PS- I’m not entirely sure how this will manifest- maybe as a video series, book, workshop or course- but it looks like I have some more work to do around forgiveness and making amends. Water Bottle Wisdom: Create Peace

My water bottle shared great wisdom with me this morning. I am reminded that when we create peace within, we can then live it out and share with those around us.  If the troubles around the world are weighing heavily on you, take heart. There is hope.

Affirm with me: I won’t be overcome by the doom and gloom. I will create peace in my head and my heart. I will create peace wherever I am. ❤️

The Thirty-First Blessing: I am Complete

Blessing #31

In launching The Blessings Butterfly, I initially set out to write a simple book of affirmations, meditations, blessings and encouragements that would express to the people I love the most just how much they mean to me. I chose words and thoughts and themes that would empower the handful of people I had hoped would read it. Beautifully, in the process, I came to discover a new sense of love and acceptance and joy and freedom within myself. The blessings became circular, as they poured out of my heart and flowed over me and came back to me, in a perfect loop. Each Mantra unlocked a profound healing lesson as I explored layers within myself that were still carrying wounds, scars, and brokenness.

This is the culmination of all the blessings, and in reading them together, out loud, I feel a sense of empowerment knowing that I am complete.

When I work 1:1 with my private clients, these are the lessons that we address together. This is the framework for my holistic healing work, and my offering to the world.

The Thirtieth Blessing: Freedom

Blessing #30: I am Free

“I am no bird; and no net ensnares me: I am a free human being with an independent will.”
― Charlotte Brontë

I AM FREE! I am Free from anyone’s control over me. I am Free from all unhealthy relationships that once defined me. I am Free from my old addictions, and I am Free from my old unhealthy behaviors. I am Free from the old beliefs that limited me, that made me feel unworthy or incapable. I am Free to think, Free to speak, Free to love, Free to live my life exactly as I wish.

“When I discover who I am, I’ll be free.” ― Ralph Ellison

As much as I might like the approval of others, I no longer require it. I am finally at peace with myself. I now follow only my heart, and my heart has led me to the place of perfect Freedom.

The Twenty-Ninth Blessing: Honesty

Blessing #29: I am Honest

“It’s discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit.” ― Noël Coward

When did being honest and truthful become such a rare bird? While I don’t consider myself to be one of those “brutally honest” people (mainly because I am not comfy with the “brutal” part) I do value honesty in myself and in the people I allow into my life. I do not want to be lied to, and I do not like to lie to anyone either. If you ask me to tell you the truth about something, I will. I will say it in the nicest way possible, but I won’t lie to you. I only expect the same in return.

“I meant what I said and I said what I meant.” ― Dr. Seuss

Now, if you were to ask my boyfriend, he would tell you that I’m a giant fibber. NOT TRUE! I’m a terrible liar. I can’t get away with it to save my skin… and he knows it. So, when he asks me “What’s wrong?” and I say nothing- I mean, I literally say no words, I just squeeze my lips shut and shake my head- he knows that there’s more to it. Fortunately we’ve been together long enough that he knows when I respond that way, it means that I’m just not ready to talk about it yet. But I will, and even if it is something painful, unpleasant, or just super awkward to talk about- I will tell him and it will be the truth.

I’m working on being able to say, “I’m not quite ready to talk about it just yet,” or something along those lines. Because really, it’s just that simple, isn’t it?

“Truth builds trust.” ― Marilyn Suttle

The best foundation for any lasting relationship is trust, and you cannot build trust if you do not have truthfulness. Every person has some dark spots in their past, shady and embarrassing things along the way that they would rather erase or lock away. But when it comes time to begin any new relationship, you have to be able to come clean and share openly. This is true for friends as well as lovers, as honesty is vital to the survival of both.

“Honesty is a very expensive gift, Don’t expect it from cheap people.” ― Warren Buffett

Living your truth can feel absolutely terrifying at first. Not everyone will like you, or agree with you, or understand you. And that is hard, but it is also so very freeing. The more honest you are with yourself, the more aligned your external life becomes with your internal life, you create a transparency about you that is beautiful and attracts others to you who also value honesty. It may take a longer time to unravel and reveal yourself, and that’s okay. You have to do it in your time and at a pace that is comfortable for you. But you must do it. You must be honest, first with yourself, and then with those you are letting into your life. Because they are also letting you into their lives, and they deserve the real you. Authentic, honest, genuine you.

Mantra: I am Honest. I have nothing to hide!

The Twenty-Eighth Blessing: Wealth

Blessing #28: I am Wealthy

“Money is only a tool. It will take you wherever you wish, but it will not replace you as the driver.” ― Ayn Rand

Wealth is commonly described as the abundance of valuable resources or valuable material possessions.  But what does it really mean to be wealthy? Can you have wealth in some areas but not in others and still be considered wealthy? Are you wealthy enough, and do you- or can you- know it when you are?

“Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants.” ― Epictetus

In my travels I have had the great fortune to meet and interact with some of the most beautiful, amazing and joyful people around the world. Some of these people are very rich, some are living well below the poverty line, and I have learned lessons from both. I’ve spent time sharing in the lives of people who lack much in material wealth or opportunity, but who are abundant in love, kindness, generosity, and faith. Likewise, I’ve spent time with people who have considerable wealth, but who lack warmth, kindness, or concern for the lives of others. To me, true wealth is maintaining a balanced combination of the two: financial abundance and a prosperity of love and care for the world around us.

To be completely honest, I’ve always had an unfair prejudice against “rich people” and I believe that had a lot to do with shaping my relationship to money. I never wanted to be someone whose wealth messed up my happiness, or shook my sense or contentment. I didn’t want to become someone who valued money and possessions more than people, and I didn’t want to have people around me who were only looking for handouts or a free ride. I can look back and see the pattern of create, accumulate, deplete repeated many times over the years.

I have spent the majority of my life at a certain level financially- usually having just enough to take care of my needs, a little extra to indulge some of my wants, and a bit more to share with those in dire need. I have learned how to create wealth for myself financially, but until recently never seemed to be able to trust myself to amass great quantities of it and keep creating itI finally decided to change my mind about the way I look at money and truly welcome wealth into my life, and it has made all the difference.

One of my favorite mantras: I have everything I need, and there is nothing that I am lacking. If I ever need or want to have more of anything, I already have the tools I need to make it so.

“When you are able to shift your inner awareness to how you can serve others, and when you make this the central focus of your life, you will then be in a position to know true miracles in your progress toward prosperity.”
― Wayne W. Dyer

There are some wonderful money-mindset coaches who are skilled at helping ordinary people like me to discover their “roadblocks” to wealth, including Nicole Lewis-Keeber and Denise Duffield-Thomas. Both of these ladies are experts in their fields, and have been tremendously important to my personal growth and financial success.

The Twenty-Seventh Blessing: Success

Blessing #27: I am Successful

“Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” ― Napoleon Hill

What does it mean to be successful? It is in dreaming, it is in desiring, it is in accomplishing the things that we set out to do. It is in trusting that one crazy calling of our heart and following it along an obstacle-filled path, down a few rabbit holes, into a brick wall or two or three and then ultimately to the place where we can quietly whisper, “I did it!”

“Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” ― Oliver Goldsmith

Each life is filled with many successes and failures, and every one of them matters. Every tear, every drop of sweat, every sleepless night that you have spent in your quest to achieve your dreams has great value. Look back and see how far you’ve come! Look at what you’ve endured and learned along the way! There is no good reason to stop now. Keep pushing, keep dreaming, keep going. Your success is already here.

“Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any one thing.” ― Abraham Lincoln

The question isn’t who’s going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.” — Ayn Rand

The Twenty-Sixth Blessing: Learning

Blessing #26: I am Always Learning

Knowledge is not finite. There is simply too much to discover!

I do not claim to be the smartest person in the world, but I love knowledge so much (and equally despise ignorance) so that I made up my mind long ago that I never want to stop learning. Knowledge is not finite. There is simply too much to discover!

“Learning never exhausts the mind.” ― Leonardo da Vinci

I have such a nerd-crush on the brainy people, the problem solvers, the philosophers and deep thinkers of this world. I love the spirit of those who love to teach, those who seek to improve themselves and the world around them by lifting others up.

I crave conversations with people who know a great deal about subjects that stretch my mind and challenge me to think deeply, without trying to make me feel small or stupid.

“I’ve seen how you can’t learn anything when you’re trying to look like the smartest person in the room.” ― Barbara Kingsolver

Above all, I absolutely love to discover new things and gain a deeper understanding of the world. I think that my inner 3-year-old will always prompt me to ask “Why?” and I’m completely OK with that.

Here’s to learning the hard way. Here’s to honoring our multiple intelligences and to discovering which learning styles suit us best. Here’s to formal education, street smarts, and being self-taught.

“For me, I am driven by two main philosophies: know more today about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You’d be surprised how far that gets you.”  ― Neil deGrasse Tyson

I am Always Learning.

The Twenty-Fifth Blessing: I am Good at What I Do

Blessing #25: I am Good at What I Do

“No one learns as much about a subject as one who is forced to teach it.” ― Peter F. Drucker

Take a moment to review all that you do in your current vocation. Know that you are better and more experienced today at the job you do than you were yesterday, last week, or last month. Push yourself to give your best effort and put your many talents to work. It is OK to acknowledge that you are good at what you do!

When you are starting out in a new job or learning a new skill, it takes some time to become a master of your craft. As a rookie in your field, even with some natural talent you will definitely have a learning curve to contend with. Take the time to soak up all the training afforded to you and know that one day, it may be you that is training up the next crop of rookies.

Wherever you are and whatever you are doing today is preparing you for the skills you will need tomorrow.  Be sure that you are putting your time and talents to good use, so that you can say with confidence: I am Good at What I Do!

“Champions do not become champions when they win the event, but in the hours, weeks, months and years they spend preparing for it. The victorious performance itself is merely the demonstration of their championship character.” ― Alan Armstrong
