    Toxic Positivity

The biggest difference between Transformational Positivity and toxic positivity is that the latter doesn’t invite or encourage you to fully express the difficult feelings of heartache, anger & pain when you’re suffering from the very real life experiences of disappointment, betrayal, abuse and generally shitty behavior from other hurt, angry, unhappy humans. That’s not Transformation- that’s just bypassing. As a writer and speaker who values telling the truth AND is driven by a desire to ease our suffering, I often find myself in the sticky space of highlighting the transformation while still trying to honor the struggle. The struggle isn’t…

    Affirmations & Positivity

The thing with Affirmations is that there’s a helpful way to use them & a harmful way. Helpful: recognition of old patterns, Love for & healing of old wounds, and finding the wisdom & strength to recalibrate your life in a way that serves you better and brings you Joy. Harmful: bypassing difficult emotions, triggering trauma without offering healing & perspective, and ignoring the true lived experiences that you have as valid. So please know this: when I share, I am sharing from a place of some level of my own healing. And I have come a hell of a…

    The Transformational Positivity Summit

How many times have you been going through a difficult or stressful time in your life, and some (hopefully well-meaning) person comes along with advice like this: “Fake it ’til you make it!” “Just be more positive!” “No bad vibes!” “Smile, things could be worse!” UGH. That’s just really NOT helpful! I have been so frustrated with the fake positivity like this that permeates social media and the damage it creates in it’s wake. Humans, even the most enlightened, awakened, spiritual among us all still experience the very real, very human emotions that constantly get labeled as “negative” [read: BAD].…

    Amazed and Grateful

OMG. She’s almost ready! We took another sneak peek yesterday of our house and so much more has been done. The sweet brick motor court is completed. Exterior is 95%. And inside, oh, my… I cannot wait to share what’s going on inside. It’s Beautiful. —— I am amazed and so very grateful for the life I have, and the Joy that I am a co-creatrix of. In my 20’s, my life was such a story of pain and struggle and desperately seeking to escape my suffering. It was a broken heart and a battered body. It was fear and…

    A Look Inside Your Walls

BUILDING YOUR BEST LIFE: At the beginning of the weekend, my fiancé and I had our “open wall” walkthrough of the new house. This is the home as it looked on Friday morning, just prior to the next round of inspections. We met with our GC/Foreman and did a literal walk-through of the property, while the expert told us everything we could ever want to know about it. We were encouraged to ask questions, and found it fascinating to learn not only about the specific materials used, but why the builder is so particular about what goes into each home.…

    Treasure Hunt

I’ve always been fascinated with treasure hunting, how about you? When I was little, I used to paint rocks in glitter and gold, bury them in my front yard, create an elaborate map (complete with burnt edges to make it look cool and really old) and gather a couple of the younger kids on my block to go find the buried treasure. They loved it, and it was such fun for me, too! On my most recent international adventure, I did a grown up version of this by blessing and hiding these tokens on a tiny island in the middle…

MAGIC MIRROR: What is one positive thing about yourself that you know to be absolutely True? One thing I’ve learned is that when we are struggling (also known as growing) we tend to tell ourselves all kinds of stories about ourselves that actually have little to do with the Truth (“I’m not ____ enough” “Nobody really cares about me” “I never win” “Nothing good ever happens for me” etc)… That negative reinforcement doesn’t move us forward though. It just makes it easier for us to quit progressing and stay stuck in old, unhelpful patterns. We have the power to shift…

#FridayFeels Visualization as a Tool for Positivity

Did you know that you can use the powerful technique of visualization to create more positivity in your life? It’s a simple and easy to implement tool that can move you from default-thinking about “worst case scenario” and allow yourself the possibility of something better… something brighter… something more beautiful for yourself and your life (yes honey, you DO deserve good things). Try this exercise: picture yourself in a totally dreamy, once-in-a-lifetime scene. Imagine what it looks like, sounds like, smells like. Is it a job/career? Is it an exotic vacation? Is it accepting an award? See yourself as 100%…
