    Friday Faves: Michael Powell Photography

I’m always amazed by the incredibly gifted people in my world. Today I want to give a shout out to multi-talented photographer, musician and dear friend, Michael Powell. Holla! Michael and I became friends years ago when he was playing guitar in a mutual friend’s band (more on Josie and her current band Eye the Realist another day). We bonded over LOST, a.k.a. one of the best TV series ever. I bawled my eyes out on his couch during the Series Finale. Oh, and it was a party so there were quite a few people there watching me totally meltdown……

Emotional Eating & Your Inner Superhero

Friends, emotional eating (from feeling fearful, sad, angry, or whatever overwhelming thing we are feeling) is something that can be managed and overcome when we learn how to access the tools we need. It definitely takes practice and lots of support to “retrain our brain” but it is TOTALLY doable!  I’ve been actively at work on my own emotional issues and how I can respond to stress differently than I did for so many years. It’s a powerful process, not always easy- but the healing that has taken place and the strategies I’ve gained are worth the effort. I’ve learned…

Craving Good Things & The Thing About Emotional Eating

I was recently visiting with my dear friend Susan, chatting about what we are both up to and chewing on big ideas. I was enjoying a finely crafted unsweetened green tea latte, and we were remarking about how much we actually want to eat healthy foods now (with the exception of delicious, occasional French Fries, obvi)  when something she said struck me like a bolt of lightning: “Bodies don’t crave junk food, emotions do.” Isn’t that just the absolute truth? Think about it- when you are depressed, sad, upset, angry, lonely- what do you reach for for comfort? A stiff…

    Friday Feels: Brave

Friday Feels: It’s been the kind of week where I am questioning my every decision one minute to pushing my own limits the next. Question. Push. Question. Push. Mild panic. Deeper questions, push back harder. I have a message to share, and it equally emboldens me and terrifies me. It’s the driving force behind my new health and wellness project, The Cocoon – Empowered Transformation, and the reason I have been videoing myself doing a series of workouts- even though I don’t have a model’s face, a trainer’s body, and a studio to produce high-quality videos. It’s just me, my…

    Friday Feels : Compassion

Friday Feels: Election years have a way of revealing some very deeply seated ugliness in a nation and its people. Candidates seeks the lowest common denominator to garner votes, and their most rabid supporters seem to lose their humanity, becoming angry robots fueled by hate & fear. In contrast: I pray for peace daily. I call on a spirit of kindness, caring, and love to fall on me. I open my heart for compassion, because I cannot bear the weight of existing in this world without it.

    #FridayFeels: Loved

This is not a post about Valentine’s Day …or Single Awareness Day. It’s just about Love. Love- it’s the essence of life, that sparkle that unites our collective souls, an energetic vibration of the highest & purest truth.  Whenever I speak, think, feel, or act from a place of Love- I am perfectly aligned with The Divine.  It feels right, and good, and perfect.  It’s beautiful! It takes some practice. It means that I have to be mindful, not just reactive. And it is definitely not always easy, but it is always the right choice. Mantra: I do all things…

    Labels

I was just updating my About section over on my personal FB page and noticed a new (?) feature called Intro.  I actually have no idea how long that has been there. A week? 3 months? 20 minutes?  But I digress… Anyway, I was suddenly struck by the way I was labeling myself and realized, Aha! I really do get to say whatever I want to about myself! YES! I define myself to the world, not the other way around. Here’s some of the (awesome!) labels I’ve chosen for myself: Just a little ray of sunshine! Occasional showers with a…

    What is the Goal?

This year is the year I’m focusing on a healthy transformation in my life. I’m looking to create something BIG though. Something deep. I want to go wayyyyyy beyond “lose ___ pounds blah blah blah” and instead pave a way for people of all body types -including my own- to be empowered, to feel loved, to discover their strength & true beauty. I’m not trying to be skinny again. I’m not trying to look like a supermodel or a Victoria’s Secret ad. I actually love my body as it is, but I really want to FEEL better in it. Have…
